Just in case any of you missed it there was a royal wedding a few weeks ago with a global televised audience of an estimated 2 billion. At the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the star of the show some say was Reverend Michael Curry and I am inclined to agree. Despite the Royals stifling fits of giggles the question to be asked is why were we so captivated by Reverend Michael Curry?
I decided to watch the wedding in the sunshine on the big screen in Royal Borough of Greenwich in London . It was quite impressive to see the commitment for the Royal affair shown by the British public, the picnic baskets and blankets, the wine and soft cheeses, the unwavering British politeness and etiquette as hundreds negotiated the limited space.
The wedding was beautiful (if not a little predictable) but the atmosphere clearly changed with the address to the congregation of Reverend Michael Curry – he spoke with a passion that some have described as electrifying. He was unapologetic in his address and that is what I believe captivated our hearts. A man who spoke with a confidence about that which his heart is so deeply connected too- and he will not for any man or station tone it down. In his address, he won the respect of millions for being his authentic and true self.
The following words that he spoke stopped me abruptly;
"Think and imagine a world where love is the way. Imagine our governments and nations where love is the way. Imagine business and commerce where this love is the way."
The Global Conscious Movement advisory group has 5 values that capture the ethos behind it– one of which is Love and one of which is Imagine. (The others are Thrive, Connect, Collaborate) Our work is to advocate a new way and assist in creating policies and strategies that bring love and conscious action into communities, systems and organisations and help them thrive. Having worked as a Barrister and a Senior Executive I cannot tell you how phenomenally tired I am of hearing the word love so spectacularly undermined in board rooms and amongst senior professionals.
However- recent years have shown that there are companies that are paving the way in showing that they care about their customers, they care about their impact on society and the environment around us. I have had the pleasure to meet with some of them and in their care and authenticity is the expression of their Love.
Love, is a concept so misunderstood in the competitive advantage it brings and the interesting part is that boardrooms are talking about Love in different guises; instead using words such as trust, purpose and authenticity. The fact is that we the consumer recognise truth, love and authenticity. When we see it reflected amongst the infrastructures around us then our organisations, industries and communities will thrive and that is what Reverend Michael Curry was talking about.
Watching an international royal affair and hearing the words of Love and Business and Government and Nations in the same sentence was a very clear sign to me that the time is right for the Global Conscious Movement. It is time to find that other way together and therefore it is with pride that I welcome and introduce you to the Global Conscious Movement and to each other, as all of you are invited to be part of the movement.
